The (sub)Urban Landscape

Philadelphia’s Jan Yager has a studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she uses urban flora, such as the parslane weeds that grow through the cracks in the pavement, to embellish her silver and gold tiaras, brooches, earrings and necklaces.  She uses urban cast-offs, such as crack vials, to create jewelry that comments on contemporary society.

“I don’t live by the Grand Canyon,” Yager has said. “I have to find my beauty where I live.”
